The Missouri Baptist University Chorale is a community choral ensemble comprised of students, faculty, staff, alumni, and friends of Missouri Baptist University in St. Louis, MO, USA. St. Louis is home to the iconic monument known as the Gateway Arch symbolizing the gateway to the west and is situated at the confluence of the Mississippi and Missouri Rivers. Just as St. Louis played a pivotal role in American history for expansion and new frontiers, the MBU Choral Department seeks to provide opportunities for our musicians to expand their musical understanding to a global perspective while bringing messages of good news and good cheer to all who will hear. In our program, audiences will enjoy a variety of literature reflective of Missouri composers and influences, our geographical confluence of two major rivers, and a spiritual celebration of American music.
The MBU Chorale is known for their commitment to a variety of genres and styles. They perform multiple major and minor masterworks annually in addition to diverse fall, spring, and Christmas programs. Our singers have been an invited demonstration choir for American composer, Dan Forrest, at the Getty’s SING! Conference, performed St. Louis composer Robert Ray’s “Gospel Mass” at Carnegie Hall, produced two worship albums, and recently commissioned “Hymn to the Evening” by American composer Josh Rodriguez, based on Phyllis Wheatley’s text. The MBU Chorale has performed internationally in Austria, Italy, Ireland, and beyond, and are thrilled to return to Great Britain.
Our most recent masterwork concerts featured Handel’s “Messiah” – our quadrennial tradition which showcases student soloists and conductors. Expanding our study of this iconic masterpiece to admiring Handel’s adopted homeland provides a rich experience for our musicians that sends us to new frontiers while also better understanding the confluence of British and American history and culture.
