*****FREE COMMUNITY THANKSGIVING MEAL*****~Long post, please take time to read~
A few years back, we were invited to help deliver Thanksgiving meals by Jodi Damron Gorrell. She told us it wouldn’t be long and gladly accepted the chance to help her out. Then came an Easter Dinner and so we did that one too after telling a friend or two how much fun we had and they decided to join us….. and our friends tribe grew from there. It just became a tradition of some friends and strangers joining together to help those who needed a meal delivered to them or a place to eat with people to have conversation and not be alone during the holiday. Tradition continued for years.
With the closing of Pete's Pizza the meals would have ended. After discussion with Jodi and some sweet talking of our friends (not really they were glad to help) we have decided to continue their tradition that they started, just in a new location. We thank Debbie Schreckengost for allowing us to use the VFW Post 1212 (1630 Garfield Avenue Parkersburg). This meal WILL continue.
So if you if you can’t afford or are not able to, or just don’t want to make a big meal, this is for you. If you just need a place to be with others on the holiday, this is for you too! We don’t judge as to why, just let us help. These meals will be delivered on Thanksgiving day between 11am and 1pm or you can eat at the VFW with us. As always, there is NO CHARGE for the meal or delivery. We will also continue their tradition they ALWAYS did with any tips being donated to Mid-Ohio Valley Toys for Tots for gifts for children for Christmas.
So here it is, if you need a meal, please call (304)377-8312 before Monday, November 24th. This will give us time to prepare to make sure we have enough food.
Providing a free meal means that we are looking for sponsors or people willing to help out and donate items to make it happen. Our plan is turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes and gravy, corn, green beans, a roll and pumpkin pie (which Chaz Dye has already stepped up for). If you would like to volunteer to help out, shoot me a message too. We will take ya’. Please share this with anyone you may know who could use the help or company.
Times are tough, we get it. Many years ago, I was told “the world needs a little more kindness” so that is just what we are trying to do. Thank you Rusty and Jodi for starting this tradition. We will proudly continue it for you all.
