One thing we’ve noticed in our community is that many children already have plenty of Easter activities—egg hunts, candy, baskets, and full calendars of spring events. But at the same time, many of us are looking for ways to serve together and help our children and youth learn what it means to care for others.
So this year our church is doing something a little different.
Instead of hosting another egg hunt, we’re inviting the community to help us create Easter baskets for children served through Methodist Services in Philadelphia.
Over the next couple weeks we’re collecting items like wrapped candy, small toys, activity books, and basket grass to fill the baskets.
Then on Palm Sunday, we’ll gather for a short worship service followed by a free breakfast and a hands-on service project where people of all ages can help assemble the baskets together.
It’s a simple way to spend a morning with neighbors, share a meal, and do something meaningful for children who might not otherwise receive an Easter basket.
If you’d like to join us, you’re welcome to come for breakfast, the service project, or both. We just ask that you let us know how many people are coming so we can plan the breakfast.
Sometimes the best way to celebrate a holiday is simply by sharing it.
