ALTER EGO COMICS CELEBRATES FREE COMIC BOOK DAY WITH 25+ FREE TITLES, COSPLAY, AND GIVEAWAYSAlter Ego Comics will celebrate Free Comic Book Day on Saturday, May 2, 2026 from 10am-2pm. Every visitor may select up to five free comic titles from a selection of more than 25 available issues spanning genres and age groups, from young readers to seasoned collectors.
Cosplay is encouraged. Visitors are invited to arrive dressed as their favorite comic book character and celebrate alongside fellow fans. The Fantastic Four & Spider-Man will be on hand to take pictures with guests. And the store will also host a giveaway featuring a birthday package donated by Sky Zone, open to all attendees.
Research consistently demonstrates the power of comics in building young readers. Studies show that comic books increase reading motivation among reluctant readers, improve vocabulary and visual literacy, and help children develop stronger comprehension skills. The American Library Association has long recognized comics and graphic novels as valuable literacy tools, particularly for reaching children who struggle to engage with traditional text. Free Comic Book Day, now in its 25th year, was founded on exactly this principle: that putting a comic in a child's hands can be the spark that turns a non-reader into a lifelong one.
"Comics are for everyone, and Free Comic Book Day is our favorite opportunity to prove it," said Marc Bowker, owner of Alter Ego Comics. "We want every person who walks through our door on May 2nd to find something that speaks to them, whether they're six years old or sixty."
Alter Ego Comics has been serving comic book fans and collectors in Lima, Ohio since 2003. Located in downtown Lima, the store offers new and back issue comics, collectibles, and a welcoming community for fans of all ages and backgrounds.
