Berkeley guitarist, composer, bandleader and musical polymath John Schott has been a dynamic force in the Bay Area music community for nearly 40 years. In those years, he has formed numerous long-term collaborative partnerships with musicians, writers, choreographers and film makers, resulting in a body of work that cuts across musical genres. As a guitarist his long term associations include: the Baguette Quartette, playing vintage Parisian valse-musette; the Paul Dresher Ensemble, with whom he premiered works by Steve Mackey, Sebastian Currier and Fred Frith; the pioneering Grammy-nominated acid-jazz band T.J. Kirk; the clarinetist Ben Goldberg; the author Jonathan Lethem, and the poet Jake Marmer. For the past 18 years, Schott’s primary vehicle for his compositions has been his group Actual Trio.
