About this Event

Annette Sax will be reading the contemporary Yorta Yorta story ‘Yurri's Manung'.

Written by Auntie Dr Sue Atkinson AM, Yorta Yorta & Illustrated by Yarn Strong Sista's Education and Creative Director Annette Sax, Taungurung.

Yurri needed a warm place to sleep when winter came to the Barmah forest, her friends had no room for her in their homes in the trees, bushes, burrows and caves of the forest. With the help of Uncle Ambrose a Yorta Yorta Elder they make her a home of her own.

Following the storytelling session, Annette will invite the group to 'Make a Manung', providing a hands-on opportunity to engage with rich cultural tradition. Suitable for both children and families, this event promises an immersive and educational experience for all attendees.

All participants are invited to bring in some natural resources such as bark, grasses or leaves, which will be used in crafting your own unique manung.
