Join the Frederick County Master Gardeners for the Cultivation Lecture Series and learn about Deer Mitigation.
Deer are not shy about treating our landscapes like an all-you-can-eat buffet. This seminar on deer mitigation in Maryland is designed to help homeowners and gardeners better understand local deer behavior and learn practical, science-based strategies to reduce damage—without creating new problems.
Participants will explore why deer populations have increased in Maryland, how suburban development influences deer movement, and what that means for home landscapes, farms, and natural areas. The session will cover a range of management options, including plant selection, fencing and exclusion techniques, repellents, habitat modification, and community-based approaches. We’ll also discuss the limits of “deer-resistant” plants and what to expect during periods of food scarcity.
* Registration for this seminar begins 3 weeks prior to the event.
The doors open 30 minutes prior to the start time.
