About this Event
Remember to stop and smell the roses...
NEW! So you've stopped, but you've not been able to smell much? Many people love the fragrance of roses but have found that a large percentage of roses on the market today lack fragrance. This is partially due to the fact that when breeding roses for disease resistance, fragrance suffers, since some fragrance genes and disease susceptibility genes are linked. Additionally, there are genetic factors influencing human perception of scent. Fortunately, there are quite a few fragrant roses, both old and new, on the market that offer some degree of disease resistance plusl the benefit of heat tolerance. This class will focus on some outstanding fragrant roses for smaller spaces. Mannerly bush roses will be highlighted since many gardeners in Dallas county do not have room for large shrub roses or rampant climbers. Also, we will explore fragrant roses that perform well in hot locations and touch on fungal disease management during wet and humid seasons. FREE.
