About this Event
Join artist Elena Larriba for a hands-on clay workshop inspired by her exhibition Gathered Fragments. Explore clay as a material of touch, memory and repair, working with small fragments to create your own tactile forms.
The session will begin with a short introduction and walkthrough of the exhibition, where Elena will share insights into her artistic process and the ideas behind her work. You will then be guided through an intuitive making process using clay, focusing on assembling, layering and transforming fragments into meaningful objects. With a little time and perserverence using simple hand-building techniques, you'll leave with a piece of your own!
No prior experience with clay is required. This workshop is open to adults and encourages slow making, experimentation and sensory engagement with material.
Elena Larriba Andaluz's Gathered Fragments will be on display at Bargoonga Nganjin, North Fitzroy Library from Thursday 30 April to Sunday 26 July 2026.
This exhibition explores themes of brokenness and repair within personal and urban landscapes. The ceramic pieces incorporate textures from Fitzroy and North Fitzroy—cracks, worn bricks, and weathered surfaces—transforming them into fragments that celebrate resilience and overlooked beauty. Displayed along the foyer’s curved wall, the installation evokes the layering of histories and urban skins, offering a shared sense of community memory. Positioned within contemporary ceramic dialogues on fracture and repair, the work reframes everyday textures as symbols of transformation and continuity.
