The time has come! We are once again accepting submissions for this year’s playwriting festival.This year’s theme is ‘The price of passion’.
Everyone has something that is near and dear to them; yet, life often dictates where we spend our time and energy. Daily difficult choices pull us towards or away from what drives us. How difficult is it to distinguish our needs from our desires? Nevertheless, humanity is prone to chasing after passion.
Let the theme inspire you to create something amazing!
Here’s how to participate!
We will start off the festival with ‘pitch night’ where potential playwrights will pitch their ideas. Scripts DO NOT have to be completely finished at this point, but a general structure should be visible. Pitch night will take place on the 9th of February at New Visions Theatre’s rehearsal studio (Kovářská 939/4). So get your ideas rolling, you have the holiday months to prepare your pitch!
Directors, actors, scenographers, etc are welcome to join the event.
(Pitches should include synopsis, estimated run time, number of actors, necessary props, if you want to self direct, and any other relevant information for your play)
General festival format:
The holiday season is a perfect time for writing. As many will be on holiday, this will be the time to develop your ideas and start writing your play.
9th of February: Pitch night. Come with a description of your play with the elements listed above.
16th of March: A ROUGH BUT FUNCTIONAL DRAFT is to be presented. Drafts should be prepared to be presented to the producer and to potential directors to read.
13th of April: FINAL DRAFTS must be given. They can of course be presented sooner. The sooner the better for casting. At this point, scripts must be solidified. Additional modifications to the script are not allowed.
Casting will begin the 14th of April or sooner based on the presentation of the final drafts and will continue until needed roles are filled. Auditions will take place based on need and availability.
Rehearsals will begin by May. Rehearsals are to be arranged by the respective directors of the shows and their teams. At this point, plays MUST be in a final format and may NOT be changed in order to respect the actors and directors working on the show.
Plays will begin to premiere according to their respective teams. Exact dates are to be announced as the time approaches.
