Ross Dullard has been fascinated by the natural world from an early age, immersed in nature through his family's deep love of the outdoors. This early connection sparked a lifelong curiosity about flora, fauna, rocks and fossils- an interest that, in more recent years, has grown into a particular passion for fossicking around the Surf Coast in search of an elusive fossilised bone that could unlock critical insights into the evolution of whales. Ross will share his personal journey that led to the discovery and naming of a new species of ancient whale in 2025 – the Janjucetus dullardi. He will take us through the key moments of that journey, from the initial discovery to the exhilaration of a new species of prehistoric whale being named in his honour.
