About this Event
Iris Levine, renowned conductor of Los Angeles’s VOX Femina, leads a 70 voice women’s chorus in a concert featuring Andrea Ramsey’s Suffrage Cantata for chorus, chamber orchestra and narrator. It is an urgent exploration of America’s suffrage movement, told from the personal histories of diverse women. Singer and actor Simone Ledward Boseman is guest narrator.
The composer writes, “Some of the most revered figures in the U.S. Women's Suffrage Movement have been romanticized in ways that omit massive flaws of judgment… I have tried to craft a work that is honest about the heroism of these figures while also acknowledging their flaws.” The dynamic program is rounded out with choral music by Pablo Casals, Emily Drum, Rosephanye Powell and more.
Forward Into Light – Music for Women’s Voices is produced by Berkshire Choral to be held at Lewis & Clark’s Flanagan Chapel on Saturday, June 6 at 7:30pm.
