"Forward For Freedom: Leading Educators Tell Their Stories," features three exciting speakers on LET FREEDOM READ DAY (Sat, Sept 28), during Banned Books Week 2024. It is a free community event designed to recognize and celebrate librarians and teachers, and all others who value the First Amendment rights to freedom of expression, and freedom of the press.
Presenters include: Liz Barker, newly-elected Sarasota County School Board Member and public school mom; Martha Bireda, scholar, author and Director of the Blanchard House African-American Museum in Punta Gorda, addressing the value of "Teaching True History"; and Jennifer Jenkins, Founder of 'Educated. We Stand,' a political action organization dedicated to championing public education and like-minded school board candidates, and a public school mom in Brevard County, FL. ()
Event introductions/Q & A by award-winning journalist and community advocate Carrie Seidman, and retired library administrator David Brostrom, representing the Social Justice Alliance of the Florida Suncoast ().
SEE Alliance and UUSRQ will be hosting FREE child activities on site of this event including Free childcare, children's sing-alongs, read-alouds, other fun indoor/outdoor activities for kids.
