Forest Bathing, also called Forest Therapy, is a practice of deepening a sense of connection or relationship with nature through a 1.5- 2-hour walk. It is typically a slow wander through nature, but it can be adapted in many ways for different groups and abilities. A Forest Bathing walk is not a naturalist walk, a rigorous walk, or actual bathing (all clothes stay on;)). This Experience is led by a certified guide, who does not serve as a therapist- the forest is considered the therapist-but whose role is to open the possible connections by offering suggestions (which we call invitations) that help the participant develop a more sensory and embodied relationship with the surrounding nature and forest. In addition, this experience has been shown to lower blood pressure, reduce anxiety and depression and help us slowdown from our hectic lives.Lincoln Memorial Garden will be hosting sessions throughout the year. Longtime Garden member and supporter, Cassandra Claman will serve as the guide for these sessions. In order to enhance the overall experience, group size is limited, and registration is required. The cost per session is $15 for members and $20 for non-members. Please contact the Garden at (217) 529-1111 if you have any questions. Be sure to dress for the weather as the session is outdoors, also please bring a cushion or packable chair.
