Explore this beautiful area of South Yorkshire with us, identify, gather & feast on a wild food picnic
If you are new to the idea of foraging, or have been thinking about incorporating more wild food into your diet for a while, but don’t know where to start, we know that feeling! We’ve all been there!
Come and join us on our spring foraging experience and we will be your guiding hand.
We will give you the perfect introduction to all the fabulous wild edibles coming to life at this time of year… including we hope St. George's mushrooms too.
Spring is the perfect time to learn, as there is an abundance of new growth and incredible variety! And of course once you’ve learned to ID a plant, you can follow it throughout its growth season, adding to your knowledge!
Our foraging events include identifying, harvesting and tasting a wide range of spring plants and fungi.
We will provide delicious tasters of our own wild food and drink creations along the way, as well as a wonderful wild food feast showcasing a wide variety of seasonal foraged plants to inspire you to get creative with your own foraged treasure!
We will also follow up with recipes and ideas to get you started.
We love concocting great tastes with our foraged treasure and want to inspire you to do so too! There will also, of course be an opportunity to taste things straight from the hedgerow.
This isn’t an outdoor lecture though, it will be relaxed and informal. There will be time for questions. We want you to be engaged in the process and there will be ample opportunity to hand pick your own wild edibles, so bring that basket!
*The day will start with a quick introduction … to ourselves and to the law and ethics of harvesting wild food.
*We will walk to a number of spots to look at different growing environments by the riverside and through woodland.. stopping to identify both edible and poisonous plants.
*You will be in good hands, with a Chinese Medicine Acupuncturist and chef, both members of the Associtation of Foragers running the day! Between us, we’ve many years of foraging experience and plenty of practice making good use of wild plants, so will be suggesting some great recipe ideas and talking a little about the medicinal use of wild plants too.
*No two days are the same, it is difficult to predict a strict running order, so we will allow nature and the plants we come across to dictate the way the day unfolds! Of course, due to the unpredictability of nature and the seasons, we also can’t say what we will find on the day, nature gives us no guarantees!
