A 3-hour forage and ID walk with a foraging expert. Includes wild snacks, and tips on using wild plants and fungi for cooking and gardening
About this Event
Event Photos

It's quite simple; we go for a walk for 2-3 hours, finding, examining and tasting wild food. At the worst, you're going to have a lovely time out in nature for a few hours. At the best, this experience could shift how you interact with nature, nutrition and the wider wild world.

Expect wild tasters and snacks, tips on how to safely identify edible (and not so edible) species, history and folklore, foraging rules, laws and etiquette, and advise on how to use wild plants in your home kitchen, or garden!

Who is this event for?

Out-of-towners. City people. Country folk. Foraging is for everybody! Young, old, and everywhere in between. People who enjoy the outdoors, natural history and good food will all love this experience. Everybody is welcome at a WildWorld event, from complete novices to more experienced foragers looking to fill gaps in their knowledge.

What to expect:

Every forage and find out session is unique, with different landscapes, seasons, ingredients and people guiding the theme of the day. However here are a few things to expect from your foraging experience.

  • Safety briefing covering foraging best practices, regulations and etiquette.
  • Detailed information on various species of wild plants and fungi (as available). Including ID tips, potential hazards, gathering, cooking, preservation, folklore, and potential uses of wild plants in your home garden.
  • Wild tasters and snacks showcasing foraged seasonal ingredients. This could be wild canapés, preserves and ferments, sweet treats, wild crafted drinks or ingredients freshly picked and cooked on the day. We will also pick and taste wild foods as we go, but be aware that the course focus is on education and not on collecting large amounts of wild food.
  • Good people and good vibes. We believe good vibes are outside! It is well established that spending time outside in nature is beneficial for our general health and wellbeing, and a foraging course is a great place to spend time with friends and family or meet new like-minded people. Our courses are for everybody, be they novice foragers or more experienced gatherers looking to up their game. We provide a welcoming and informal atmosphere where questions and conversation are encouraged from all age and ability levels.
  • Following the walk you will receive an email listing the species found on the day, with links to other resources to further your learning.

What do I bring with me?

  • Appropriate clothing and footwear for conditions on the day. We advise bringing walking boots or trainers that you don't mind getting muddy! Please bring waterproofs or sunscreen where appropriate.
  • Water, and a snack to keep you going if you think you will need it. Snacks will be served on the day but please be aware this does not constitute a full lunch.
  • Hand sanitiser.
  • A means of recording your experience for further learning. Phones and cameras are good, a note pad and pencil even better!
  • Proof of ticket purchase
