About this Event
Join us Sunday, October 20, 2024 for a pop-up film screening and conversation around a powerful new documentary, FOR OUR DAUGHTERS, from Kristin Kobes Du Mez, the creator/author of Jesus and John Wayne. This new documentary highlights a culture of submission and sexual abuse in the Evangelical church that starkly contradicts Jesus' teachings about women, which emphasize love, respect, and honor.
A timely exploration, the film delves into how the church has often cared more about power and political influence than love, and how the harm done to women and children threatens to extend beyond faith communities. By exposing the abuse and the abusers who distort God's name to justify their actions, FOR OUR DAUGHTERS challenges women to be a driving force within their own communities.
Directly after the film screening, Kristin Kobes Du Mez will take the stage, followed by a panel of local female leaders who courageously share their own stories and experiences to shed light on the effects of this abuse on all people.
In addition to the upcoming election, October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. We hope to raise awareness of the mistreatment and violence against women in all faith communities and walks of life.
