About this Event
Course Overview
This full-day, hands‑on lab based course is designed to advance the clinician’s ability to evaluate and treat foot and ankle dysfunction. This course integrates concise, evidence‑informed lectures with experiential learning, including guided palpation, movement analysis, and manual therapy techniques focused on the ankle, midfoot, and forefoot. Emphasis is placed on clinical reasoning and practical application, providing participants with effective hands‑on strategies they can confidently implement in patient care immediately following the course.
Learning Objectives
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
1. Perform region-specific assessments of the ankle, midfoot, and forefoot to identify impairments in mobility, stability, and motor control.
2. Apply hands-on manual therapy and therapeutic exercise techniques tailored to each region of the foot and ankle.
3. Integrate clinical reasoning to select and modify appropriate interventions based on patient presentation and functional goals.
4. Progress treatment strategies from impairment-based techniques to functional, weight-bearing applications.
Agenda Overview
Functional Screening & Movement Observation
- Foundational functional tasks to assess movement quality and load distribution
- Clinical observation to guide region‑specific decision‑making
Optimizing Ankle Mobility, Stability, and Control
- Practical assessment of key ankle structures in weight‑bearing and non‑weight‑bearing positions
- Hands‑on interventions paired with mobility, stability, and control strategies
Midfoot Mechanics and Load Management
- Evaluation of midfoot mobility, control, and load transfer during functional tasks
- Targeted manual techniques and exercises to support efficient movement
Forefoot Function and Propulsion Strategies
- Assessment of forefoot mobility, loading patterns, and push‑off mechanics
- Manual therapy and exercise progressions to improve stability and propulsion
Special Considerations & Clinical Integration
- Post‑operative and special population considerations
- Strategies for integrating course concepts into daily clinical practice
