Food Forest Design Workshop Wanting to learn how to grow food sustainably, either in your own backyard, or have acres to fill?
Join us for an inspiring and hands-on Food Forest Design Workshop at the beautiful Kaiapoi Food Forest! Learn how to design your very own sustainable, thriving food forest while getting practical experience in this growing movement.
Date: Saturday, 1st March 2025
Time: 9:00 AM – 4:30 PM
Location: St Bartholomew’s Hall, 23 Cass St, Kaiapoi & Kaiapoi Food Forest, 32 Cass St, Kaiapoi.
What to Expect:
This workshop will guide you through the essential principles and techniques of designing a suburban food forest, from how to observe and analyse a site for locating a food forest, how to select and utilise tree-crop and understory species in beneficial guilds in a food forest design. You’ll leave with a deeper understanding of ecological systems and the skills to create a self-sustaining suburban food forest that nurtures both people and the planet.
Participants will receive a set of relevant handouts which they will become familiar with during the course theory and activity sessions.
Entry Requirements:
No previous orchard or gardening experience is necessary.
Knowledge of Permaculture land-use design is an advantage but not necessary.
What to Bring:
- A Spade
- Covered-in footwear or gumboots
- Garden Gloves
- Clothing suitable for both indoor and outdoor activities
- A jar with a lid (for a special activity)
