Delighted to announce our next Food Book Club is with the rock star of oysters, Essex boy, Bobby Groves of Chilton Firehouse fame with his book Oyster Isles. On 25th November 2025, 12.30pm, at the Galvin Green Man. Born in Maldon, Essex, Bobby has spent over 20 years in the oyster industry — from working with 8th-generation fishermen on the Essex coast to launching the celebrated raw bar at London’s Chiltern Firehouse, where he still works exclusively. His passion for oyster culture, sustainability, and craftsmanship has taken him across the coasts of Britain, Ireland, and the USA, earning him recognition as one of the leading voices in shellfish and reef restoration.
Bobby will give us an insight into the world behind Oyster Isles — a fascinating exploration of oyster heritage, environment, and adventure. Tickets cost £55 and includes a locally sourced lunch of Maldon Oysters (not mandatory!), Diver Scallop Crudo and Essex Skate with Cockle beurre noisette, and a signed copy of the book (RRP £12.99).
