We invite you this September 22, from 12pm to 6pm to celebrate our culture with the traditional Fonda Familiar 2024 “A mala visa, buena caña”, a free community event where the Chilean community and the general public participate in music, dances, traditional games, traditional food and lots of fun. This year, the event is funded by “Celebrate Together” from the Ministry of Multicultural Affairs of the Government of South Australia. Thanks to this funding, we will have a large marquee as the main stage, more trash cans and extra portable toilets, among other things.
We have several artists who will generously participate in our fonda:
- Sounds of Chile will bring us cuecas and other genres of Chilean music.
- CuecaSA will showcase the best of the Chilean national dance.
- María José and Simón will show us how to dance the cueca brava.
- Alma Chilena will present traditional Chilean dances and music.
- Salva and guests bring us hip-hop, rap and dancehall.
And of course, the best Chilean music to listen to and dance to.
As a tradition, we will choose the best pebre in Adelaide. Everyone is invited to participate. Simply bring your original preparation for our judges to taste and decide the winner.
Ridge Park, located at Myrtle Bank SA 5064, is very cozy and beautiful, easy to get to by public and private transport. It has games for children, public toilets, and plenty of space for you to bring your picnic blanket, awning, chairs, tables and grills. We recommend that you bring your food and drinks, of course in the spirit of sharing. CCSA will have two community grills so you can grill your meat, sausages and more.
In case you do not bring your food, CCSA will not have any products for sale, but we are accompanied by three businesses that you can go to and buy directly from.
- Antojitos Latinos will have a varied assortment of Chilean sweets (alfajores, chilenitos, empolvados, palmeritas, milhojas, among others), mote con huesillo, churrascos and chacareros with kneaded bread and homemade mayonnaise.
- Mucho Gusto Adelaide will have delicious empanadas and churrascas.
- El Quitapena will have choripanes and anticuchos.
There will be no alcoholic beverages for sale (each attendee can bring their own cooler for personal consumption).
We will also have craft stalls.
- Kaban will accompany us once again with its candles and other artisanal products.
- ChilenOzi, directly from Melbourne, brings us Chilean crafts and products, especially clay pots and cups.
There will be no shortage of opportunities to play traditional games. You will have the opportunity at the Chilean tejo or rayuela, as well as the traditional sack race and three-foot race, among others.
General conditions:
- It is strictly forbidden to drive stakes.
- Minimize waste generation and try to take as much as possible home.
- If you use charcoal or wood in your BBQ, you must take the ashes with you.
- Always maintain a positive attitude, respectful towards others and neighbors.
- The event ends at 6pm. CCSA is not responsible for situations after the end time.
This family-friendly event is a family and community event organized by the Chilean Community of South Australia, a non-profit association, and with the valuable help of many volunteers. Without them this event would not be possible. You can make a donation at the event to help us finance this and other activities. Feel free to join our vibrant association. See you very soon!
