About this Event
Welcome!
Folktales for New Scots is about community and cultural exchange through local folktales and crafting.
A creative meeting place for people from different cultural backgrounds – bringing together New Scots and more long-established Scottish residents.
Whether you’d like to get lost in quiet print-making alongside others, or chat away with new people and share your culture, this is a space for meeting other locals and being creative together.
Who is it for?
Ages 16+
We welcome New Scots - people with migration and asylum experience – and also ‘born and bred’ locals and long-established residents.
What to expect on 25th April:
• Scottish folktales with a local storyteller
• Print making led by Beetroots Collective
• A welcoming space to create and connect
• All materials included, no experience needed.
About the workshops:
This is a series of workshops, designed to build on each other.
All the workshops are based around creative print-making, with some including a visit from a local storyteller.
Can I attend more than one session?
Yes! You’re welcome to attend one session or many.
Artwork will build from week to week, resulting in a film shown at a street celebration in Peebles, in March 2027.
Wheelchair accessibility:
The Dill Hall has a height difference of approximately 1/2 inch between the main door and the pavement. The building has regular visitors who are wheelchair users and are able to negotiate the entry. If you would like more detail, please contact both the Drill Hall ([email protected]) and Beetroots Collective ([email protected]). Both email addresses are managed by part-time workers, but we'll endeavour to contact you as soon as we read your message.
Inside the Drill Hall, the toilets in the foyer are wheelchair accessible.
Folktales for New Scots is funded by Creative Scotland National Lottery Fund
