Our first Folklore Jam will feature talks by A’Yanna Solomon and Lamont Jack Pearley. Join us after the presentations for an open jam session! Free and open to the public.
A’Yanna is a first-year PhD student of Ethnomusicology with a focus on global hip hop culture(s) and Central Asian popular music(s). They will present an aspect of a long-term research project they are working on which examines the use of blackness and blacksound as musical devices in Qazaqstani and Kyrgyzstani rap music.
Lamont Jack Pearley is an Educator, Culture Bearer, and Bluesman whose work focuses on the conservation and sustainability of blues and black traditions through performance, documentation, and a repository of ethnographic interviews. The African American Folklorist and the Blues share the Blues Narrative through original delta blues traditions, sharing stories, singing songs, and engaging the audience through the oral history of The Indigenous Black American Traditional & Tribal Music called The Blues.
