About this Event
Georgia Shackleton is touring her new album ‘From the Floorboards’, alongside traditional East Anglian material from ‘Harry’s Seagull’. Self penned and traditional songs and tunes rooted in history, the sea, and storytelling.
Written and recorded to mark 125 years since Sir Ernest Shackleton first sailed on the Discovery, From the Floorboards centres on the remarkable Shackleton Violin. An instrument crafted by luthier and conservationist Steve Burnett from the floorboards of Shackleton’s former Edinburgh home. The album was recorded aboard the historic RSS Discovery in Dundee, directly connecting the music to the spirit of endurance and exploration that inspired it.
Joined on tour by guitarist Aaren Bennett, Georgia weaves her distinctive songwriting together with traditional songs penned by Shackleton and his crew while stranded in Antarctic ice, as well as East Anglian folk material, creating a seamless dialogue between past and present. Expect an immersive journey through icy seas, eroding coastlines, and living oceans - honouring early explorers while reflecting on today’s fragile marine world.
