From award-winning filmmaker and actor Ken Harris, “Foes of a Minimum Wage Guard” is the world’s first original solo play to spotlight the critical issues of retail crime and loss prevention. The story follows elderly retail guard Steve Smelly, who reluctantly accepts a new assignment as a loss prevention detective in a department store plagued with losses. Facing the daunting challenge of curbing rampant shoplifting, Steve realizes that failure is not an option. If he cannot prove his effectiveness, he risks termination at the hands of the fearsome and rude district manager, Mr. Coldstone. At this stage in his life, Steve cannot face unemployment due to various personal issues. This story grapples with the obstacles of age, workplace dynamics, and the ever-present threat of job loss. In this groundbreaking production, Harris portrays 12 different characters.
