About this Event

Nutrition workshop for Somerset workforce

A half day workshop to support with knowledge and skills to support a compassionate and positive approach to healthier eating for health gain.

Who is this for?

We welcome all staff who are working within the health and public sector in Somerset, including NHS staff, teachers, school support workers, foster teams, adult social care and those working in voluntary and community sector organisations. All staff are welcome to attend, whether you are service user/patient facing or not.

Core content will include:

  • An overview of the gut microbiome, why it is important and how nourishing it is key for optimal health
  • Why a compassionate approach matters, and how we can ALL be healthier regardless of body shape or size.
  • The impact of food processing on nutrient quality and health
  • How to eat MORE of what our gut thrives on – evidence based nutritional messages to support sustainable healthier food and drink choices
  • Addressing barriers, practical solutions and resources to facilitate steps towards healthier eating

Our collective aim is to promote compassionate, consistent, positive and sustainable evidence based nutritional messages for our Somerset population, starting with our workforce.

This workshop is hosted by Lesley Harper (Registered Dietitian, Somerset ICB) and Tamara Bennett (Registered AfN Public Health Nutritionist, Somerset Council).

Recommended learning modules to view prior to this event

To help you get the most out of this training, we recommend completion of the Somerset Council basic human nutrition modules. These modules have been certified by the Association for Nutrition.

We request you complete this registration form prior to completing the modules. The 17 modules can then be accessed via DropBox. You do not require a DropBox login to view them and they are best downloaded and viewed on a Desktop Powerpoint to be able to access the additional information in them. At the end of each module is a short quiz, completion of each of these will enable you to receive a certificate of completion.

The completion of these modules is not a mandatory requirement, as we understand that individuals will have different levels of knowledge with regards to basic nutrition . However, having a grounding basic knowledge of human nutrition will help you to get the most out of the training.
