About this Event
When did Calgary’s current airport open for business? Where was Calgary’s first airport? Where is the oldest surviving airport building in Calgary? Who are the streets in the airport area named for and why? Who did Marilyn Munroe fight with in Calgary’s airport terminal in 1953? (I sure hope someone knows the answers to these questions, or this is going to be a real short, dull walk…) Hike along with us as we shout over noisy airplanes for a look at Calgary’s aviation history, some of its great characters and some of its tragic moments.
YOUR WALK LEADER: Richard is alife long aviation nut, founding member of the Hangar Flight Museum, president of the Calgary chapter of the Canadian Aviation Historical Society, founder and Prez of the Calgary Mosquito Aircraft Society, former skydiver and pilot.
MEETING SPOT: NE corner of the Hangar Flight Museum parking lot, 4629 McCall Way NE
WALK NOTES: Uneven terrain, 2.5km over easy ground, kids and critters welcome!
***Please note, we ask that folks cancel their tickets through Eventbrite if they can no longer make it to a walk as tickets are limited. This allows folks on the waitlist to take open spots.***
