This is more than just a fly-in... it's your chance to escape, soar, and create unforgettable memories in one of Kentucky's most pilot-friendly and scenic spots.
Picture this: Launch right from the airstrip and explore breathtaking directions tailored for every mood:
North: Glide over rolling picturesque farmland and endless open crop fields — perfect for relaxed, open-sky cruising.
East: Follow Rough River Lake as it transforms into a dramatic river carving deep between wooded hillsides — pure thrill for adventurous souls seeking that heart-pounding rush.
South: Cruise through wide, peaceful valleys framed by 400-foot hills — ideal for smooth, contemplative flights.
West: Challenge yourself with precision low-level flying through dense forests and hidden homestead pockets, meandering along the river bottom where you'll spot more deer than you can count. This route is legendary among experienced pilots for its beauty and technical fun!
The fun doesn't stop in the air. Everything is within easy walking distance of the runway:
Mini-golf, disc golf, kids' playground
Lodge with a classic diner for hearty meals
Clean restrooms, showers, and a climate-controlled planning office right next to parking
Just 3.5 miles away, Falls of Rough Resort offers even more: an 18-hole golf course (special discounts for us!), swimming pool, and the historic mansion. Camping is FREE for campers, buses, or tents (200 spots, first-come, first-served — generators welcome, common plugs in the FBO). No power hookups, generators are welcome. All fires must be elevated and contained.
Event Details at a Glance:
Admission: $60 per pilot
Vendors (including tandem providers): $250 flat rate (includes admission + camping) — must provide insurance, waivers, and tandem exemption if applicable. Dedicated vendor area near the midline.
Fuel: Ethanol-free "Rec Gas" available right across the street!
Food: Grab meals at the State Park Diner (walking distance), head to the resort, or enjoy one of 7 restaurants within a 15 minute drive.
Lodging: Options at the State Park, 2 motels across the street, or the resort river front cabins (ask Brennan for deals).
All pilots must register in advance at https://www.freedomflightacademy.org/events/2026-fly-in-at-the-falls and attend the mandatory flight briefing before launching.
