Fly Fishing 101
With Susie Whitaker at Reely Good Life
This course is designed for both beginners and those with a little more experience who want to improve their knowledge and skill level to become self-sufficient fly fishers.
It’s a VERY hands-on class and limited to four students so that every student receives lots of individualized casting instruction.
You will spend a peaceful day surrounded by the “Old Florida” beauty of The Black Hammock Wilderness Area, alternating between classroom instruction on the rustic front porch and hands-on instruction on the private pond and in the secluded casting area.
At the end of the day, practice your casting then relax around the fire where you can roast complementary hot dogs and s'mores, enjoy a glass of wine, connect with other students, and get a chance to observe wildlife such as osprey, owls, deer, turtles, and a variety of colorful birds.
Once you’ve attended this course, you will be eligible to register for our educational fly fishing adventures and special events.
Loaner fly fishing equipment available.
Topics Covered: Equipment, Setting up Your Fly Fishing Outfit, Basic Knots, Proper Casting Technique, Fishing Etiquette, Finding Places to Fish, Common Fish Species, and Fly Selection.
---Susie has over 30 years of experience fly fishing for fresh and salt water game fish. In addition to teaching at her own fly-fishing school, she also teaches at Jon Cave’s Performance Fly Fishing Schools, and at Casting for Recovery retreats. She is currently a member of the Pro Staff for Sage Rods and RIO Products. And, as a health coach, personal trainer, and yoga instructor, she helps her fly-fishing students stay healthy and fit so they can make the best of their time on the water. ---
