The Community Flute Choir class is designed to bring flute players across Morgantown together to make music and learn in a collaborative setting. Open to flutists of all ages and playing levels – with at least two (2) years of playing experience– this weekly ensemble aims to nurture your love for the flute and explore creative ways to connect with the instrument. Join a group of fellow musicians and have fun performing repertoire that travels through time, cultures, and styles. The rehearsal experience promises to develop your sight-reading, listening skills, technique, and intonation—helping you unlock new levels of musicianship while making meaningful musical connections. The 8-week session will culminate in a 30-minute concert for your family and friends at the Monongalia Arts Center.Scholarships: Thanks to community support, we are excited to offer an auditioned scholarship for a middle or high school flute player to join the Community Flute Ensemble. This support provides a unique opportunity for a dedicated young musician to learn, grow, and shine within our ensemble.
Requirements: Open to flutists of all ages with a minimum of two years playing the flute. Any prior experience playing with large or small ensemble is welcome but not necessary. Members are expected to commit to regular rehearsals and performances.
Optional: Ability to perform on one or more auxiliary instruments, such as piccolo, alto, or bass flute, is encouraged. Members should own or have access to rent one of these instruments.
About the instructor: Greek flutist Dr. Eftihia Arkoudis leads a multi-faceted career as a performer, pedagogue, and arts entrepreneur serving as the founder of EVA Arts Collective. Eftihia is a recognized visionary leader passionate for arts advocacy, community-building, and empowering the next generation of musicians. A Music Business & Entrepreneurship faculty at the University of Florida College of the Arts, in 2024 she was a Latin GRAMMY®-nominated album executive. The same year she was also honored as a 2024 Outstanding Staff for Excellence by West Virginia University for her efforts in fortifying partnerships between higher education and the community during her tenure as Director of the WVU Community Music Program (2021-2024). An interdisciplinary artist at heart and “a natural performer who conveys her ideas and narrative very well” (Pittsburgh Concert Society Competition), Eftihia, performs across Europe and U.S as a soloist and co-founder of the award-winning BETA Quartet (USA) and 3Pirouetten (Germany). She brings theatricality to her interpretations of new works and collaborations with living composers have led to benefit concerts, seven studio albums, and over fifty world premieres.
