About this Event
Lucila is a contemporary Australian oil painter Artist. She is also a practicing medical doctor specialising in Radiology and Nuclear Medicine.
Born in Argentina, Lucila has called Australia home since age 5. She has lived and worked in country Victoria for 10 years and now lives in Sydney with her family.
Lucila paints across several genres and has two ongoing series for which she is most recognised in Australia. These are florals as you see today - magic-real distortions of flowers, colour, pattern, outline and overlap. Her other ongoing series is a narrative based on a character that wears a mask of a kangaroo - exploring identity and humour, also superimposing the real and the imagined.
Lucila is the recipient of the AGES Society Art Prize 2019/2020 and has been a finalist in more than 20 art competitions. Her painting of her daughter in a kangaroo mask made the Australian NSW Salon des Refusés in 2022.
"In the way one talks to a friend and takes pleasure in re-living a story;
I paint to prolong a moment.
Time is a Thief, and painting is my defence.
In the way one listens to sad music to cry;
I paint in protestation.
In the way one talks to a friend to make sense of something;
I paint to understand a subject.
In the way one enjoys life and beauty simply and without reference to anyone else,
I paint for the sheer love"
