About this Event
The Florida Housing Coalition is a statewide nonprofit and Florida’s leading expert on affordable housing. We understand the housing and development challenges, from ending homelessness to supporting first-time homeownership, faced by local communities across the state. We envision a Florida where all members of every community, including the most vulnerable and low income, can live in a home of their own choosing and affordable to them, and that each community has at least one community-based organization with the capacity to play an important role in the delivery of housing and related services. Our team of 20 housing specialists provides technical assistance in the areas of planning and growth, policy, strategic planning, affordable housing development, non-profit capacity building, stakeholder engagement and coalition building, and disaster planning and recovery. Together with our members and partners, we make up the largest network of affordable housing professionals in the state to leverage resources, strengthen policies, and improve the availability and quality of housing in Florida.
As Director of Land Use Innovation at the Florida Housing Coalition, Ali Ankudowich, AICP, partners with local communities on land use policy, land development regulations, and local action planning for more affordable homes. Prior to her role at the Coalition, she served as a community planning consultant on local issues including growth management, comprehensive planning, code reform, affordable housing, transportation, parks, public finance, and more. She is a member of the American Planning Association and the Congress for the New Urbanism. Ali is a graduate of Smith College (Magna Cum Laude) and received her Master’s in Urban and Regional Planning from the University of California, Los Angeles.
At this event, learn more about recent state legislation promoting land use and zoning flexibility for affordable homes, including the recent "Yes In God's Backyard" tool for affordable development on religious lands and examples of local governments implementing the tool through local policy. We'll also cover updates on the Live Local Act land use mandate for affordable housing development and additional housing highlights from the current legislative session.
