Take the next step in your security career with the Florida Class G (Armed Security Officer) license course. This 28-hour state-mandated program provides the firearms safety, marksmanship, legal, and practical training required to apply for the Class G license through the Florida Department of Agriculture & Consumer Services (FDACS). Taught by a licensed class "K" instructor, the course combines classroom instruction with live-fire qualification at the range.
What the course covers
Florida firearms law, liability, and security officer responsibilities.
Safe handling, storage, and transport of firearms.
Fundamentals of marksmanship: stance, grip, sight alignment, trigger control.
Malfunction clearing, reloading, and weapon retention basics.
Required range qualification course with handgun (minimum 70% accuracy required by FDACS).
Use-of-force decision-making and the ethical/legal considerations of armed security work.
State training requirement & certification
- Course length: 28 hours (minimum), including classroom and range components.
- Certificate: Upon successful completion and passing qualification, you’ll receive the training certificate required to apply for the FDACS Class G license.
- Annual refresher: Florida requires 4 hours of requalification training each year to maintain the Class G license.
Who should attend
- Licensed Class D security officers ready to advance to armed roles.
- Security professionals seeking employment in higher-paying, armed positions (bank security, armored car, high-value asset protection).
- Individuals needing state-recognized firearms certification for licensed security work.
Prerequisites & eligibility
- Must be 21 years or older.
- Must already hold a valid Class D license or be applying for it concurrently.
- Must be legally eligible to possess firearms under state and federal law.
- Bring a valid photo ID. FDACS requires fingerprints and a background check as part of the licensing process (completed separately from this course).
Logistics & requirements
- Duration: 28 hours
- Format: Combination of classroom and live-fire range instruction.
- Equipment: Will be discusses after sigining up.
Important notes
- Successful completion of this course does not automatically issue the license — you must still apply to FDACS with your certificate, fingerprints, and fees.
- Class G is a serious professional credential; students are expected to uphold the highest standards of safety, responsibility, and ethical conduct.
- Ongoing training and practice are strongly recommended beyond the state minimum.
