A Botanical Witch Hat Design Contest & Mid-Spring Celebration
What is this event? We are calling 20 local creators to design and craft the ultimate Spring Witch’s Crown. Using the iconic pointed witch hat as your canvas, you will weave together botanical magic and Galveston folklore to compete for over $400 in prizes. This is a celebration of the "Flower Moon" season, culminating in a public exhibition and a celebratory walk on the Apothecary patio.
Date: Sunday, May 3rd, 2026
Location: Herb & Smudge Apothecary | 201 26th St, Galveston, TX
Contestant Limit: Strictly limited to 20 Registered Crowns ---
The Contest: Rules of the Craft
To enter the gallery and be eligible for prizes, your crown must meet these three magical requirements:
Pointed Silhouette: Your creation must represent the iconic "Witch’s Hat" shape (pointed, slumped, or wide-brimmed).
The Island Find: You must incorporate at least one natural element found on Galveston Island (shells, sea glass, driftwood, or local flora).
Hand-Decorated: You may use a "blank" base or build from scratch, but all botanical and mystical elements must be added by hand at home.
The Lore Scroll: The Spirit of Your Creation
Every magical object has a story. To give our 5 Guest Judges the full context of your work, all contestants must bring a pre-written Lore Scroll to be displayed alongside their finished hat.
The Legend: Give your crown a name (e.g., "The Primrose Priestess") and describe the intention behind it.
The Folklore: Briefly explain the "folklore" that inspired you and identify your specific "Island Find."
The Presentation: Get creative! Use parchment, tea-stained paper, or calligraphy to make your scroll as magical as your hat.
Registration & Deposits
Pre-Registration: A $15.00 deposit is required to reserve your spot (Limit: 20).
The Refund: The $15.00 fee is fully refundable upon check-in.
The Commitment: If you do not show up by 12:00 PM on the day of the contest, the fee is non-refundable and your spot will be released.
