Ready to tackle home repairs with confidence? This hands-on short course gives homeowners the essential DIY skills needed to fix and maintain their property safely and effectively.

Learn how to handle common repairs, use tools correctly, and avoid costly mistakes. Whether you’re a first-time homeowner or simply want to update your skills, this course will equip you with essential DIY techniques to confidently manage home repairs and maintenance, helping you save time and money on everyday tasks.

Delivered in CIT’s specialist building and construction workshops, this course combines in-person learning, online modules, and practical demonstrations. With expert guidance from industry professionals, you’ll practise real repairs and maintenance tasks, building the confidence to tackle DIY projects at home. This is a non-accredited short course.




Eligibility and entry requirements

To enrol in this course, you must be aged 17 years or older, and be one of the following: 

  • an Australian citizen or permanent resident 
  • a New Zealand citizen 
  • the holder of a permanent humanitarian visa 
  • an eligible temporary visa holder as defined in the CIT Admission and Enrolment Policy.   



Delivery mode
  • Face-to-face course delivered on-campus over 3 weeks (3 half-day classes)

  • How to safely prepare for and carry out basic home repairs (electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and more).
  • Using essential tools and materials for DIY maintenance.
  • Identifying and fixing common household issues such leaks, broken fittings, minor wall repairs.
  • Safety tips and compliance for DIY work.
  • Preventative maintenance techniques to keep your home in good condition.
  • Understanding when to DIY and when it’s time to call a professional.
