The University of South Carolina Sumter will join campuses across the United States to celebrate National First-Generation Day on November 7. The day honors students that who are categorized first-generation or are the first in their families to attend college. Generally, students are considered first-generation if their parents do not have four-year degrees.To celebrate the holiday, USC Sumter is planning a week-long celebration with a variety of events for students November 4 – 8. The week will culminate on Friday, November 7, 5 – 9 p.m., with a First-Generation Block Party that will be held in CCTC’s parking lot at 506 N Guignard Dr. The Block Party is a free community event that will feature a DJ, dancing, and food trucks.
The community evening is hosted by Central Carolina Technical College and USC Sumter. This is the third year that the Sumter area campuses have teamed up to honor their first-generation students.
