About this Event
Guitarist Lloyd Jones: the best kept roots, blues and Americana secret on the contemporary scene.
Portland, Oregon roots artist Lloyd Jones has recorded six critically acclaimed albums, toured internationally, and racked up dozens of major awards and accolades. He’s a relentless road dog, hitting festival stages, Delbert’s annual Sandy Beaches Cruises (he’s been a regular on six winter cruises), and clubs all across the land to enthusiastic crowds who can’t get enough of his swampy blues, his backporch picking, his serious-as-anthrax funk, soul, roadhouse two-beats, and old-school rhythm and blues (back before the R&B tag was somehow appropriated for other musical purposes, apparently when we weren’t looking). Yet he may be the most invisible, best-kept roots/blues/Americana secret on the contemporary scene.

Courtney Von Drehle
Composer · Accordionist · Musical Explorer
Composer and accordionist creating music at the crossroads of traditions, innovation, and improvisation.
Courtney Von Drehle is an Emmy-nominated composer, accordionist, and multi-instrumentalist whose music moves fluidly between concert stage, theater, film, and improvisational performance. Based in Portland, Oregon, he has spent more than four decades exploring the meeting place of musical traditions, original composition, and spontaneous collaboration.
He first came to national attention as a co-founder of the genre-defying ensemble 3 Leg Torso, whose cinematic blend of modern tango, Eastern European traditions, and original composition helped shape Portland’s creative music scene for more than thirty years.
Today Von Drehle continues to explore new musical territory through a range of collaborative projects, including Andrew & Courtney’s Mystery Box, Carpathian-Pacific Express, THMPR, Michelle Alany & the Mystics, and the Portland Klezmer All Stars. Across these ensembles, his playing and compositions draw on klezmer, jazz, folk traditions, improvisation, and a deep curiosity about where different musical worlds meet.
His work as a composer has reached film, theater, dance, and performance art. Film scoring credits include the Academy Award–nominated HBO documentary The Final Inch, directed by Irene Taylor Brodsky, as well as collaborations with Oscar-winning animator Joan Gratz and filmmaker Chel White. His work has earned an Emmy nomination, a Sundance Institute Composers Lab Fellowship, a Drammy Award, and recognition from the Oregon Music Hall of Fame.
Alongside performing and composing, Von Drehle teaches accordion, leads workshops, and has accompanied dance at Reed College and Lewis & Clark College since 2001 — continuing a long conversation between music, movement, and community.
Currently, he continues to compose, perform, and develop new collaborative projects across Portland’s vibrant musical community.
