Originally trained as a physicist and engineer, Derek earned a PhD in physics education, focusing on how people misunderstand core scientific concepts. He launched Veritasium in 2011 with street interviews and simple demos, but his storytelling quickly evolved into full-scale investigations blending science, narrative, and cinematic craft.
Today, Veritasium is one of the world’s most influential science platforms, with nearly 20 million subscribers, 3.8 billion views, and a team of 30. In 2023, Derek took on investors in a landmark deal and continues to be the channel’s face and creative force, while balancing reinvention and fatherhood.
