About this Event
The reality in our region is stark:
- Around 80% of ocean plastic comes from land-based sources, mainly through rivers and coastal cities.
- An estimated 80% of river-borne plastic entering the ocean originates in Asia, home to 60% of the world population
This is a problem we can collectively solve. Governments, corporations, foundations, communities, and individuals all have a role to play, from improving waste management and circular systems to funding scalable solutions and changing consumption patterns.
On 1 April, join us to discuss this plastic crisis and solutions for ASEAN with Boyan Slat, CEO and Founder of The Ocean Cleanup.
Boyan Slat started The Ocean Cleanup at age 18.
In 2012, Boyan held a TEDx talk about how to rid the world’s oceans of plastic using technology. The video went viral, and the momentum that followed allowed him to drop out of school and found The Ocean Cleanup.
The Ocean Cleanup’s mission is to rid the world’s oceans of plastic.
Through technology-driven solutions, including innovative Interceptors, The Ocean Cleanup has already removed over 50 million kilograms of waste from rivers and oceans worldwide.

Through the 30 Cities Program, the non-profit now aims to eliminate up to one third of all plastic flowing from the world’s rivers into the ocean before the end of the decade. Their focus? Stopping plastic flowing into the oceans, scaling solutions rapidly, and solving the problem at source.
They recently secured 121 millions USD fundings with The Audacious Project.
On 1 April, come and meet an inspiring Changemaker!
Learn more about The Ocean Cleanup's 30 Cities Program, the roadmap to 2030 and 2040, and how ASEAN could play a decisive role in accelerating solutions to solve one of the world’s most disastrous environmental crises.
