Birthing a fire is a simple matter on a clear evening, paper and lighter in hand; however when the wind is howling, the snow is thick, fingers are numb, and your tinder is wet... There is a craft to bringing flame into existence, we could spend weeks looking into the nuances of various fuels, fire by friction, breaking down (or building up) the stages, increasing efficiency, and so on. No two fires are the same, and no two people will go about preparing for and creating it in the same manner. However the FEELING we get seeing the first fragile flame and the urge to help it grow is pretty universal. So come dip your toe into the fire as we talk about what works and why and practice lighting various tinders using ferro rods and playing with the bow and drill friction method. See you there!
