Poets - please ONLY register for a ticket if you need a guaranteed open mic slot and can definitely attend. Please DON'T register for a ticket if you had one last month. There will also be open mic slots available on the night. **
Fire & Dust is a monthly poetry open mic event in Coventry city centre, hosted by local poets Ann Atkins and Raef Boylan. All welcome - 'page' poets, spoken word artists, slammers, MCs, story-tellers and anyone happy to listen to some wordsmith performances. Doors open for people to come in, grab seats and get settled around 7.15pm. The gig will start at 8PM.
Open mic slots are 3 minutes per poet. Find Raef (with clipboard) to sign up!

HEADLINER: MAXI DI POET
Maxi Di Poet is a spoken word artist with Caribbean Family roots in Barbados 🇧🇧, as well as Vibrations Poetry former host and performer at the Caribbean Club in Coventry.
"I am a Coventry Poet and performer and started writing creative short stories and poetry at the age of 11. I've always loved words, acting, music, dancing and culture. I never used to share my poetry because I used to keep it to myself. To me, poetry is therapy and I've been sharing for roughly 3 years now. I've performed at Coventry's Godiva Festival 2024, the open mics at Fire&Dust, and have also performed in Birmingham at Poetry Jam, Empower, Kohetry and Poet's Palace. I have supported Alison Manning with Sparks Young Writing Group, which I loved, at the Belgrade Theatre and also supported Fire&Dust as a host for the Action Rayz 'Dreadbeat an' Blood' poetry event at the Coventry Cathedral, showing a film of Linton Kwesi Johnson. I would love to get a typewriter and do pop-ups from poetry for people in Coventry. I love to support poetry and the scene and was shortlisted for Coventry Poetry Laureate - and my good friend Andrea got that position. I've enjoyed meeting the Lord Mayor and other people in the city that I love, us poetry. When Fire&Dust was doing their poetry in Fargo Village I remember attending, but this was a time I wasn't sharing but I did equally enjoy the space of being in the audience to watch. (This was in the Big Comfy Bookshop days.)"

NEW OPEN MIC SYSTEM:
Some open mic tickets are available to reserve here on Eventbrite; the rest are for sign-up on the night. Priority will be given to poets who didn't get to read last month. If you read last month and want to read again, your name will go on the reserve list for random draw to fill empty slots. Most poets who want to read WILL get to, but sometimes the list is too busy to fit everyone in!
Please don't register for a ticket if you had one last month. Also, please do not take the ticket that is called ! STOP. NOT A TICKET, STOPS 'Sold Out' ALERT! - cheers.
