5 Days of Pure Free-Diving in FiordlandYou asked for it, and here it is. Five days of world-class free-diving in one of the most spectacular underwater environments New Zealand has to offer — the remote fiords of Dusky and/or Breaksea Sound.
Here, visibility regularly stretches 20–25 metres or more. Glide through towering kelp forests and clouds of butterfly perch swarming around black coral trees and sunken branches. Share the water with schools of tarakihi, moki, copper moki, blue cod, octopus, butterfish, and trumpeter. Keep your eyes open for inquisitive stingrays, spiny dogfish, and impressive seven-gill sharks — not to mention plentiful Fiordland rock lobster and the chance encounter with a mainland hapuka. It’s the kind of diving you won’t want to come up from.
When you do, comfort is waiting aboard M.V. Flightless, our 27-metre expedition vessel. Fully insulated and designed for Fiordland conditions, she boasts a water-maker, a second saloon in the wheelhouse, air-conditioning, a diesel stove, a heated and partially covered back deck, laundry facilities, and of course, a hot tub on the top deck. With three passionate and experienced crew looking after you, everything is taken care of.
We cater for up to 12 guests, and all the essentials are included — catering, bedding, towels, dive cylinders, weights, fishing gear, kayaks, paddleboards, and free-diving equipment. (Just bring your own alcohol if you’d like a drink at the end of the day.) To top it all off, your journey begins and ends with scenic helicopter flights to and from the vessel.
All you need to do is get yourself to Te Anau — we’ll handle the rest.
