About this Event
Finger knitting is a simple fibre technique that uses your fingers instead of tools or needles to create loops and stitches with yarn. In this hands-on workshop, participants will learn the basics of finger knitting and use it to create their own little octopi friend to take home.
You’ll be guided step-by-step through the process of finger knitting, learning how to work with the yarn to create your octopus using simple tying and finishing techniques. This workshop is a great introduction to working with yarn and is suitable for ages 10 and up. Younger children are welcome with adult support.
All materials will be provided.
About your instructor:
Kasie Campbell is a multidisciplinary artist based on Treaty 6 territory. Her practice explores femininity, matrilineality, and corporeality through sculpture, performance, fibre, and bronze casting. Her work revolves around a personal history with crochet and craft passed down from her late mother and now to her daughters. More recently, Campbell reclaims this lineage through the lost wax process, combining the softness of fibre with the permanence of bronze to challenge assumptions around material and craft hierarchies. Kasie holds a BFA in Sculpture from the University of Alberta (2015) and has shown her work across Canada and internationally. When she’s not in her studio, she can be found working as an Artist on the Wards at the University of Alberta Hospital, sharing the healing and connective power of art with patients and their families.
