PROGRAM OVERVIEW
This financial wellness seminar is a supportive, educational space designed to help participants better understand taxes and feel more prepared for tax season. We’ll cover tax basics, common deductions and credits, and simple ways to stay organized throughout the year. The session is approachable and informative, focusing on reducing stress and increasing confidence in personal finances. Open to all Veterans!

About the facilitator:
Marial Washington
Marial Washington serves as an Extension Agent with Prairie View A&M University’s College of Business in Houston, where she leads initiatives focused on wellness, financial literacy, money management, savings, and budgeting strategies for the community, local schools, and veterans. In her capacity as a tax advisor at Takeaway Tax, Marial provides individuals and small businesses with best practices for recordkeeping, tax planning and preparation, guidance on IRS compliance, and year-round financial support.
Originally from Houma, Louisiana, and now residing in Houston, Marial holds an MBA and is recognized for her patient, practical approach to teaching financial concepts, particularly assisting veterans transitioning to civilian life or entrepreneurship.
Her professional affiliations include the Order of the Eastern Star, Executive Women of Texas Government, and GirlTrek. Outside of her professional responsibilities, she enjoys dancing, shopping, and cooking.
Guided by the principle, “Think like a queen. A queen is not afraid to fail". Marial is dedicated to expanding her tax practice, enhancing financial wellness in underserved communities, and empowering others to make informed financial decisions.

Camp SHiEld is a division of After Military Service (AMS) empowering Women Veterans - emotionally, socially, and physically, to ensure SHE thrives After Military Service. AMS is a nonprofit organization that was founded in July of 2017. The mission of AMS is to support the personal and professional success of Veterans and their families, after military service. AMS increases resiliency, life satisfaction and empowers our nation’s military families.
Our vision is to reduce the risk of women Veteran homelessness and suicide by providing a secure and comfortable recovery environment for the Veteran and their children to heal and recover.
