A community-led film screening of ‘War In Congo’. Deepening kinship, solidarity with the continent of Africa & keeping Congo in the kōrero!
About this Event

Facilitated by Siblings Standing in Solidarity Aotearoa

Siblings Standings in Solidarity are a rōpū of Black, Indigenous, Takatāpui and Queer siblings in Aotearoa. We move with the spiritual to spark emotions and move ourselves & others beyond apathy. We are building a space - within ourselves, in person and online - to make connection and understanding with other people’s struggles undeniable, irresistible, obvious and clear. We are challenging ourselves to embody solidarity in a slow, full, real, and urgent way, as we combine the political urgency with the deep and spacious wairua level understandings which underpin all that is manifesting in the physical.

Films for Africa is a pop-up educational initiative, connecting community with the continent one film at a time.
For our first event, we are screening Thierry Michel’s 2022 film: War in Congo: Trapped in a Spiral of Violence.
A documentary shot over a 20 year period, this film provides a unique and detailed overview of the social, economic and political life of the country, and keeps Congo in the kōrero.

ALL ticket funds and donations will be directed to Justin Mulindwa a poetry slam artist and devoted activist from Goma, Congo - founder and director of Bel Av a network of young humanitarian artists that provide resources, food, educational and artistic assitance in displacement camps within the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Justin currently also experiences displacement as he has fled his hometown for his safety.
