About this Event
Starseed Studios: Young Filmmakers Production Team
Starseed Studios is an inclusive and dynamic seven-week filmmaking series for children (ages 7-12) where children learn everything there is to know about creating their own short films — and actually produce a new short film each week. From concept to final cut, students are fully immersed in the creative process in a supportive and inspiring environment.
We proudly welcome neurodiverse children, including those on the autism spectrum or with ADHD, as well as neurotypical children. Our program is thoughtfully designed to honor different learning styles, strengths, and communication styles while fostering collaboration, creativity, and confidence for every child.
Each student chooses a role that excites them and aligns with their strengths. Roles include:
• Producer
• Director
• Actor
• Editor
• Screenwriter
• Cinematographer
• Set Designer
• Costume Designer
• Sound Designer
• Storyboard Artist
• Production Assistant
At the heart of the program is storytelling. Students learn the essential elements of compelling storytelling — character development, plot structure, emotional arcs, sequencing, dialogue, perspective-taking, and visual storytelling. They develop the skills to organize ideas, strengthen expressive language, and bring powerful stories to life.
Starseed Studios is co-led by Mike Taub, filmmaker and professional actor, and Kimberly DeLand, M.S., CCC-SLP, pediatric Speech-Language Pathologist.
Mike brings extensive experience in filmmaking, directing, and acting, guiding students through the technical and artistic aspects of production while teaching them how to step into authentic performance and express emotion with confidence.
Kimberly weaves in expertise in expressive language, narrative development, executive functioning, collaboration, and social communication, ensuring students grow not only creatively but developmentally.
Together, we blend filmmaking and communication science — empowering children to strengthen storytelling, emotional expression, teamwork, leadership, and self-confidence while creating original short films they are proud to share.
Note: Bring your own iPhone for filming & editing training.
