About this Event
The Africa Centre and Almas Art Foundation are proud to present ‘Sudan, Remember Us’ (2024), a film by Hind Meddeb.
They are young Sudanese yearning for freedom. Their revolution is poetic, driven by the power of words. The film reassembles fragments of a revolution, a battle pitting the voices of youth against the military's might.
With filming beginning in 2019 in Khartoum, Sudan, Remember Us (2024) covers events up to the beginning of the civil war in 2023. Meddeb specifically focuses on the young and often female protesters who represent the generation strongly involved in the uprising. ‘Sudan, Remember Us’ had its world premiere in the Giornate degli Autori section of the 81st Venice International Film Festival on 30 August 2024, and it was theatrically released in France on 7 May 2025 by Sophie Dulac Distribution.
This screening will be held as part of the film program ‘Voices and Visions of Sudan’, which invites viewers to engage with Sudan as a living cultural landscape shaped by memory, struggle, and imagination. Through the lens of filmmakers - across generations and aesthetic modes - we encounter cinema as a form of social inquiry and cultural continuity. We invite you to join us on the 20th of February at 7:30pm for the screening of ‘Sudan, Remember Us’ (2024).
