About this Event
Join us at Copperbridge Foundation for a special screening of Purvis of Overtown, a documentary exploring the life and work of artist Purvis Young and his deep connection to Overtown and South Florida’s cultural landscape.
Presented as part of our Spring Program: Art, Cinema & Community, and in dialogue with the exhibition No Seasoning, this evening invites audiences to reflect on artistic expression as a response to place, lived experience, and cultural memory.
Purvis Young transformed the streets of Overtown into a powerful visual language—one that speaks to resilience, identity, and the urgency of creation outside traditional frameworks. His work remains a vital reference within conversations around outsider art and community-rooted practices.
The evening will include a special participation by the Purvis Young Foundation, with Joe Chirichigno, offering additional insight into the artist’s legacy and ongoing work to preserve and share it.
This gathering offers a space to experience film collectively and engage with the narratives that continue to shape our local cultural landscape.
