About this Event

Lianna Foundation presents a screening of My Father’s Book (2021), a 32-minute documentary by Idhebor Kagho and Akpor Kagho.

In the late 1970s and early 80s, as live bands in Bendel State (now Edo and Delta) gradually gave way to discotheque and DJ culture, journalist Caesar Kagho documented the transition as it unfolded. Decades later, his sons made a film about that archive and its significance.

The evening includes:

● A short live performance directed by Wasiu Eshinlokun

● Screening of My Father’s Book

● A post-screening discussion with co-director Idhebor Kagho

This screening arrives at a moment when Lagos is experiencing a new wave of disco. Afrobeats continues to merge with South African and Euro-American house music (through amapiano and other electronic music subgenres), while soundsystem culture gains global visibility.

The post-screening discussion will reflect on the film’s heritage value and on how documenting the culture we participate in enables remembrance, introspection, and comparative research across generations.
