Another opportunity to watch world renowned artist Rachid Koraïchi explore the source of his inspiration in the Sahara.
About this Event

This initiatory journey, which originates between Djanet and Tamanrasset, continues in the Sufi brotherhood to which he belongs. Directed by Laurent Boullard, Koraïchi: Tu manques même à mon ombre dedicated to Rachid Koraïchi, was produced in 2021.

Koraïchi shares with us his discourse about peace and humanism, which can be found reflected in his works and installations. Koraïchi: Tu manques même à mon ombre highlights Rachid Koraïchi’s artistic journey and his strong commitment to peace and Tolerance for all. The film is an intimate portrait of a committed and humanist artist, recognised worldwide.

Doors open at 2:45 pm. The screening will take place in the gallery's Theatre and there is no disabled access. Duration: 64 mins.

The film accompanies the exhibition Rachid Koraïchi: Celestial Blue, which continues until 13 April, 2024.


About Rachid Koraichi

Rachid Koraïchi (born in 1947, Aïn Beïda, Algeria) studied at the École supérieure des Beaux-Arts d'Alger, Algiers, Algeria, before continuing his studies at the École nationale supérieure des Arts Décoratifs, Paris, the Institut d'urbanisme, Paris, France and the École nationalesupérieure des Beaux-Arts.

October Gallery first showed Koraïchi’s work over two decades ago, in 2003, and has presented four solo exhibitions amongst a range of external projects overseas. In 2011, the Gallery collaborated with ADMAF to present Koraïchi’s masterpiece Path of Roses, in Abu Dhabi. In 2015, he completed work on his largest installation to date, La Prière des Absents, honouring his parents. That same year, he worked on a livery for the Dubai Metro Project.

In 2011, seven of the 99 banners of The Invisible Masters (2010) won the prestigious Jameel Prize at the V&A, London, UK. This major installation was first shown in its entirety in The Future of Tradition - The Tradition of Future at Haus der Kunst, Munich, 2010.

In 2019, Rachid Koraïchi bought agricultural land in Zarzis, Tunisia, to create Le Jardin d’Afrique, a resting place, and memorial cemetery for migrants of all nationalities and religions who died crossing the Mediterranean Sea in search of a better life.
